Alberton residents spoilt on club day
Musician Manuel Escorcio joined in a Meal on Wheels event to honour older members of the organisation.
Meals on Wheels community services celebrated its club day in style on March 8 in Alberton.
According to the schedule, Tuesdays are specially designated for club days, which focuses on elderly people socialising and being entertained.
Meals on Wheels is a community-based NPO that delivers cooked meals to older people at their homes.
The manager of Meals on Wheels, Telana de Wennaar, said they felt the need to organise this event because they wanted to keep the elderly busy and make them feel appreciated.
“We had 70 older members who joined us for the meeting. We usually have 30 to 40 older members at our club day, so with today’s attendance we can indeed say we are achieving our mission and vision as an organisation,” said Telana.
Tenor Manuel Escorcio performed some of his hits.
Mido Roberts (78), who has been part of the Meals on Wheels since 2008, said it was joyful to unite with some of her friends.
