Ward 37 welcomes newly elected ward committee members
Newly appointed ward committee members will be in the office for Ward 37 for the term 2021 to 2026.
Ward 37 was pleased to announce its newly appointed committee members following elections held on April 6 at the Alberton Civic Centre.
Ward committee elections play a crucial role in communities as they allow residents to actively take part in determining core municipal processes.
Such processes according to Ward 37 councillor Ivan Naidoo include the Integrated Development Planning and municipal budgeting in a manner that best addresses their needs.
“These elected structures also provide a vital link between ward councillors and the community through processes such as public participation at local government level. Residents can make recommendations on ward issues and hold the ward councillor accountable for the execution of their duties,” said Naidoo.
The representatives are Erika Steinhobel (women and children), Tina Heunis (sports, heritage, recreation, arts and culture), Joleen Smit (environmental development), Jacqui Gouws (infrastructure), Sam Makhafola (economic development), Marie Greyvenstein (aged and disabled), Louise Hlume (youth) and Tyron Steffers (community safety).
Lillian Yeo was appointed to faith-based organisations while Wilma Jansen van Vuuren was elected for health and social development.
“The DA welcomes the above-listed members and is confident that together they will work hard to ensure that they represent the community responsibly. They will ensure that the City of Ekurhuleni is responsive to the service delivery needs of the community,” he said.
