Walkerville Youth Day Walk attracts lots of interest
The Community of Walkerville came together to celebrate Youth Day with a walk. In the process, they helped to raise money for various charities.
Walkerville Youth Day Walk was a fundraiser, hosted on June 16, to help raise money for various charity organisations in the South.
A total of 300 people attended the walk.
The walk began with a ribbon-cutting by the Mayor of Midvaal, Peter Teixeira, to signal the start of the day’s activities.
Funds raised will go towards the TLC Children’s Home in Eikenhoff, Adonai Feeding Scheme in Walkerville and the Victim Empowering Scheme.
Ian Edwards won the Youth Day raffle.
A thankful organiser
Organiser for the walk, Jeremy Glyn, said: “A big thank you to Midvaal mayoral office, Urban Wave, Allbend and others for your generous donations. Our donation letters are still out there and our books only close on June 30. We are hoping for more donations.
“Thanks to Elaine Potgieter for creating our flyer and all who shared it. Mpho Mahlatsi thank you, I hope you know how grateful I am for all you do! A thank you to all the volunteers behind the scenes. Thank you to all the women from Abbeyfield for making coffee early in the morning, Lelly’s Pancakes and The Country Kitchen and Galito’s for all the yummy food.

“A special thank you to everyone at Midvaal Traffic and Fire Department that helped us. They made sure that we had all the documentation to get permission for the walk.”
Glyn further said: “Thank you Thys, Tammy, Dave and Birha Orchards for opening up your beautiful farms to make our route possible. There are many individuals to thank and also every person that bought a ticket or pledged money.”

“Thank you for your help on the day and for going the extra mile. Then each and every person who braved the cold weather. You made this event awesome.
