Units from Fidelity ADT Special Intervention Unit (SIU) and various other security companies worked together to arrest suspected house robbers on June 23 in Bassonia.
In the last few months, there has been an increase in the number of house robberies that have been reported in Joburg South, especially in properties located next to open spaces.
Fidelity ADT reported that in their footprint alone, there have been 12 reported cases over the past two months.
The past week Fidelity ADT received an urgent call from another security group looking for assistance tracking suspects who had broken into a home in Bassonia.
Michelle Pelser, branch manager for Fidelity ADT, said: “The SIU immediately responded seeing the suspects were moving towards the Bassonia koppie and also called in some air support from the Fidelity ADT helicopter. The teams worked together to block off all possible escape routes and were able to apprehend one of the suspects in the veld on the fringe of Linmeyer.”
The suspect was handed over to Mondeor SAPS for further investigation.
“We would like to once again remind all homeowners who are close to these open areas to remain vigilant. We know the suspects are familiar with the area and appear to be operating on intel,” concluded Pelser.
