JSPCA needs your help with their very high water bill

The JSPCA recently was shocked to receive a water bill over R500 000. They soon afterwards discovered a leak.

The JSPCA recently received a shock after the water bill came at the end of the month, following a water leak.

Liana Marx, spokesperson for JSPCA said: “Last month, we received our municipal water account totalling a shocking and crippling R545 203.36 (and this month’s account won’t be much less).

At first, we thought it was a huge mistake, but after numerous phone calls and visits to the municipality, it transpired that the JSPCA would, indeed, be responsible for the full amount. We asked a leak detection company to investigate, and they confirmed a huge burst pipe under our property, spewing out thousands of litres of water. We were not aware of this leak, as it is in the old Johannesburg Water pipes deep under the ground.”

The JSPCA’s plumbing team opened a manhole cover and water started rushing through it almost immediately.
They contacted their insurance company only to find out the JSPCA isn’t covered for a big fault like this.

Unfortunately, the insurance company, as well as Johannesburg Water, are not able to help even though the JSPCA is registered as an NPO and has been at the current property for over 20 years.

Marx said: “We are in dire straits, as all our donations and support go towards caring for the animals. We have been appealing for help on all channels as we cannot operate without water. If you are able to help in any way possible – even with a very small donation – we would appreciate it so much.”

The JSPCA doesn’t have this kind of money laying around and is therefore requesting donations from the public of any amount that they can afford, even if it’s just R10.

It’s important as the JSPCA can’t operate without water for the kennels and the hospital that is located at the JSPCA.
