Alberton North man detained for illegal firearm and ammunition

A male suspect was traced and found at his residential place in Alberton North and was nabbed for possession of an unlawful firearm.

Members of Alberton SAPS arrested a male suspect for possession of an unlawful firearm and ammunition in the late hours of October 9.

A victim of crime went to the police station to tip off the officers. The men and women in blue then followed up and arrived at the scene of the crime. They searched the premises and recovered an unlicensed firearm.

“As the police searched his place, the firearm in question was found and confiscated. The suspect was given his constitutional rights and then informed of his arrest. The firearm was booked as an exhibit to be used as evidence in the court of law,” explained Alberton SAPS Captain Manare Ramotshela.

He said the suspect is fighting for bail.

Alberton SAPS station commander has welcomed the arrest.
