Realeboha and Greenfields primary schools appeal for support

Educators are seeking donations of solar panels, school uniforms, computers and water tanks to improve learning conditions for disadvantaged learners.

Senior staff members and teachers from Realeboha Primary School and Greenfields Primary School, located a few kilometres outside Alberton, participated in a networking session at Raceview Motors Alberton on Thursday.

Both schools fall under the Department of Basic Education’s (DBE) quintile one and two categorisation. These are public schools that serve the poorest 60% of communities and are legally designated as no-fee schools.

The schools serve the most disadvantaged communities, often in township and rural communities. Realeboha and Greenfields Primary School staff members called for support for their schools.

Solar panels

“Our school has a huge electricity problem, and we would appreciate solar panel donations to help us improve teaching and learning,” said Martha Motaung, a teacher at Realeboha Primary School.

“Our learners also come from underprivileged and needy homes, so uniform donations would go a long way. The teaching staff are incredibly passionate and hardworking; they just need a little bit of support to help advance learner education at our school.”

Information and communications technology

In a written request, Palmridge Ext 6 Secondary School appealed for information and communications technology (ICT) facilities: “We have learners who are very willing to learn. Our school aims to push them into ICT-related industries, and we see ourselves going paperless in the near future. However, to achieve these goals, we need tablets for our learners, computers and other technological gadgets to ensure that our school is competitive.”

Representatives from Raceview Motors Alberton committed to helping the schools in fundraising efforts and donations where possible.

Greenfields Primary School

Greenfields Primary School principal Musa Bila acknowledged and thanked Raceview Motors Alberton for corporate social investments and initiatives directed towards township schools, including Greenfields Primary.

Bila jokingly added: “Raceview Motors Alberton has already done a great deal for our school, but if you feel like you can help me with a water tank, come and do so.”
