Gardener arrested for allegedly killing Alberton mother and son

Police say the gardener tried to attack Nadine's friend with an axe when he later arrived home.

Nadine Terblanche’s friend returned home on Monday, November 27, to a gruesome scene, discovering his wife and nine-year-old son Ruandré Vorster murdered, allegedly by their gardener, in Langenhoven Street, Randhart.

“It is reported that her friend arrived at home, only to be attacked by his gardener, who was carrying an axe,” said Lieutenant Colonel Mavela Masondo from the Gauteng Police.

He was able to alert CPS Security, who responded swiftly and apprehended the gardener.

As he went inside the house, he found his 32-year-old friend and her nine-year-old son with bruises and injuries on their bodies, and they were both declared dead on the scene.

Police arrested the 37-year-old gardener and charged him with two counts of murder.

According to Lieutenant Colonel Masondo, the motive for the killings cannot be confirmed at this stage.

Ruandré was a Grade Three learner at Laerskool Randhart. The school expressed their condolences on November 28 on their Facebook page, stating, “The Rantie family would like to express their condolences to the Vorster and Terblanche families. Our deepest condolences at this sad time. #rest in peace.”

The suspect is expected to appear before Palm Ridge Magistrate’s Court on November 29.
