Vehicle theft gang caught on R59 in joint CPS and EMPD operation
A vehicle theft gang was arrested on the R59 after police found specialised equipment for stealing Toyotas and VWs. Two suspects were already out on bail for similar crimes.
A collaboration between the CPS team and the EMPD resulted in the arrest of a vehicle theft gang at 5 pm on July 29 on the R59.
The police believe the suspects, whom they detained at the Alberton SAPS, are part of a sophisticated operation targeting specific vehicle models.
Alberton SAPS station commander Colonel Olivein Letloenyane said, “The suspects face multiple charges, including evading arrest and car theft. They will remain in custody.”
Shockingly, two of those arrested were out on bail for car theft crimes committed a few months ago.
Upon searching the vehicle, authorities found computer boxes specifically designed for Toyotas and VWs, and a key coder.

Having these tools suggests the gang targeted specific models, including VW Polos and Toyota Hiluxes, Fortuners, and Yarises.
The suspects are being held at Alberton SAPS, facing charges for their crimes.
