WATCH: Alberton murder-accused couple judgement looming, court told transcripts retrieved
Missing court transcripts have been retrieved, with the matter postponed for the handing down of judgment.
The case against the Alberton murder-accused couple, Werner Jack Schoeman and Delichia Bekker, returned to the Palm Ridge Magistrate’s Court yesterday.
Schoeman and Bekker face charges including murder and theft. Bekker is accused of involvement in the death of her mother, Susan Gillian Murray, and was arrested days before Schoeman, who was caught hiding in South Hills.
Missing transcripts retrieved
At the October 7 hearing, the presiding magistrate was informed that the transcripts that had been missing, and which led to a judgment delay, had been retrieved from the court’s server.
The prosecutor said the transcripts would be ready at the next court hearing.
The missing transcripts caused a delay in the handing down of judgment, which was supposed to be done last month.
The presiding magistrate said she was in no position to hand down judgment without transcripts of the closing arguments from the defence.
The matter was postponed to October 14.
Schoeman and Bekker remain in custody.
