Local resident concerned about flowing water in Du Preez Road in Florentia
The Alberton Record has sent a query to relevant departments for comment about concerning issue in Florentia.
It is with great concern that I share the attached pictures taken recently of the situation in Du Preez Road, Florentia. This is at one of the gate entrances to Hoërskool Alberton.
This issue has been ongoing for months and is just getting worse by the day. Dirty water running down in the street, road surface damage and vehicle damage.

It seems like the drain may be blocked causing this, and I am sure that the staff and principal at Hoërskool Alberton should by now be aware of this. It is just unfortunate that nothing seems to be done about this.

Comment from Hoërskool Alberton:
“We already appointed a plumber last year to investigate whether it is a water leak. No leaks were found. It was found to be groundwater. There is a stream that runs through George Street and then goes under the school grounds. There are several groundwater areas that have been investigated within the school grounds where there is a strong flow.

“The drainage that runs in Du Preez Street outside the school grounds forms part of this. There are also further signs of the flow at the corner of George and Fick Streets. We hope that the street can be repaired but this will involve a drain in the street outside our school grounds which can connect to the town’s drainage system,” said Andre Olckers, chairman of the school governing body.
• The Alberton Record has sent a query to the City of Ekurhuleni and is awaiting comment.
