Join in on World Cleanup Day – Alberton
The next World Cleanup Day is on September 16, and here is a list of things to do to keep your community more sustainable.
There are several ways to get involved and positively impact the environment this World Cleanup Day in Alberton on September 16.
The South Crest Resident Association (SCRA) organised a clean-up and chose the veld between Cade and Irving Steyn streets, another between Eeuwfees and Jan Meyer streets and the park on Vlei Street.
Locals can also contribute by cleaning their immediate surroundings. Go onto your street and pick up the litter outside your home, or walk around your neighbourhood and pick up any trash you find. This small act can make a big difference.
If you want to participate in a big organised event, PICUP Alberton and ABOUT will clean and prune the plants on Ring Road East and West. They invite locals to join them and clean up this communal area of Alberton.
“We don’t have much time to create change needed in the world, so if you cannot join but would like to make a financial contribution, please do so. Every donation is important and will help PICUP and ABOUT continue their work. No amount is too small,” explained Deidre de Carvalho of the SCRA.
Call the SCRA’s chairperson, Hennie Grobler, on 082 213 0480 or PICUP Alberton on 061 547 3303 to donate to the projects.
Get involved
AfriForum Alberton will also host a meet and greet at Gatwick Circle (Park). Grab a hot dog and a bag, and do your bit by picking up litter in and around the park.
Call Clifford Smith on 083 469 3104 for more information on how you can help AfriForum with their initiative.
“Lastly, you can help by spreading awareness. Share information about World Cleanup Day on social media platforms or in your community. Encourage others to join the cause and share tips on how to reduce waste and keep our environment clean. The more people involved, the bigger impact we can make together,” De Carvalho said.
By participating in World Cleanup Day, she said others would be inspired to create a cleaner, healthier environment for all.
