Habibi Properties with Martins Academy shows act of kindness

As part of their community outreach programme, Habibi Properties together with Martins Academy recently rolled their sleeves to generously assist Amcare.

Habibi Properties together with Martins Academy in Brackenhurst tackled their annual community service project on September 24.

This year they partnered with Amcare. Youngsters had an opportunity to wash vehicles and clean up the grounds, pulling out unwanted weeds and cleaning up the training centres.

Habibi Properties and Martin’s Academy also donated clothing and toiletries for women and children who have been victims of abuse.

Chantelle Habib of Habibi Properties said domestic violence is regarded as a serious and growing concern in the country.

“Amcare social work services include individual counselling, education and awareness regarding their personal experiences. Marihet Infantino, general manager of Amcare, gave the children some excellent advice regarding human trafficking and how rife it is in our country, and what precautions to take so that they do not become victims themselves,” she explained.

Infantino also shared about gender-based violence (GBV) and that it was not only women who had been exposed to it. She said men should never keep quiet should they have been abused.

Habib reiterated that Amcare’s Victim Empowerment Centre is geared towards the protection of victims of GBV.

“Specialised services for women and their children affected by domestic violence holistic service include protection and legal assistance, psychosocial support and counselling. It includes a victim-centered approach, developing knowledge of victim issues, strengthening resources, and addressing the needs of victims,” she said.

Prevention of secondary victimisation, skills training and job support of victims of domestic violence, assistance with placement of children in schools or crèche and schooling requirements, community awareness and education are also among other services.
