City of Ekurhuleni launches cleaning campaign
To keep the City of Ekurhuleni clean and free from hygienic problems, the city has launched a Clean Your Kasi, Manje Namhlanje (clean your neighbourhood, now today) campaign. The city encourages locals to play their part in ensuring that the city is kept clean from neglected grass and illegal dumping sites.
Leshaka Manamela, MMC for Environmental Resource and Waste Management (ERWM), introduced the Clean Your Kasi, Manje Namhlanje campaign.
The goal of this community-based project is to deal with the ongoing problems of unlawful dumping and the backlog of grass-cutting that has grown throughout the City of Ekurhuleni.
The initiative, which aimed to bring back the cleanliness of public areas, kicked off at the beginning of the year to make sure that CoE is clean and safe for everyone living in it.
During his speech, Manamela underlined the significance of the initiative, saying that Clean Your Kasi, Manje Namhlanje is more than just a campaign but that it is an effort to encourage better collaboration between locals and communities to take care of their immediate surroundings.
“It cannot be right that we claim to love cleanliness and the environment yet we do not take care of it. Let us all join forces and look after the environment so it can also look after us.
“We need the environment for our existence and must be well looked after,” said Manamela.
The campaign is set to roll out several activations focused on cleaning up illegal dumping and maintaining green spaces, mainly in the townships.
To maintain a clean and healthy environment, these measures will be supported by educational programmes that will increase public knowledge of the significance of proper trash disposal and community involvement.
