Thousands of driving license cards remain uncollected

The EMPD urges applicants to collect their driving licence cards at various licence testing centres in the city.

The EMPD and the Licensing Division urge motorists to collect their driver’s licences after renewing them.

In terms of Regulation 108 (4), applicants are expected to collect their licence cards within 120 days. If they fail to, the Driving Licence Testing Centres (DLTC) will have no choice but to deface all unclaimed driving licences.

According to the EMPD media liaison officer, Lerato Monyane, DLTCs have challenges storing these unclaimed cards because of the thousands of unclaimed cards at their various centres.

“We plead with applicants to visit the DLTC where they applied to renew their driving licence within four to six weeks to collect their cards. After 120 days, all uncollected driving licence cards will be defaced, and eNaTIS will be updated accordingly,” she said.

She said this means the applicant will have to re-apply for the renewal of their driving licence and make another payment.

To avoid this, Monyane urged applicants to collect their driving licence cards within 120 days as prescribed by legislation.
