Alberton SAPS welcomes new detectives branch commander

The Alberton SAPS welcomed new officer, Lieutenant Colonel Samuel Mohoebi, earlier this year.

The Alberton SAPS recently welcomed a new branch commander for the detectives to protect and serve the Alberton community, Lieutenant Colonel Samuel Mohoebi.

Mohoebi was born and bred in Tsakane, Ekurhuleni, and has been with SAPS for 31 after starting there in 1993. He trained at the SAPS Academy in Pretoria College, initially working at the Benoni SAPS under the Vispol department for six months before being promoted to the Brakpan detectives branch in 1994.

He believes his love and passion for fighting crime got him where he is today, considering he has worked with over eight police stations and was always in a leading role.

“My aim from day one was to fight crime in our communities and make SA safe for everyone. My wish for the Alberton community is to see us, police officers, and the community working together to combat crime in our areas. My door is always open for locals who have problems with their unresolved matters. If we work together, we can achieve a lot in Alberton,” said Mohoebi.

He emphasized that it is the locals staying in the communities who are affected by various crimes, and in most cases, they are the ones who are eyewitnesses or have information regarding a crime happening in the area, so it is vital to alert SAPS as soon as possible because it could prevent many things from happening.

He pointed out that the most common crime in Alberton is car hijacking, followed by house robberies, and that they are working on several strategies to ensure these crimes are no longer a problem.

As part of his responsibilities, Mohoebi investigates, collects, and analyses evidence to help prosecute cases successfully and keep the detection rate for serious crimes from falling while ensuring the work is done at the Alberton SAPS detectives’ department.

Alberton SAPS communication officer Captain Manare Ramotshela welcomed Mohoebi to the station.

Ramotshela said he believes that with the new branch commander for detectives at the station, they will solve most crimes speedily and ensure no stone is left unturned.

“He was brought into our station for a reason, and this is the perfect opportunity for him and us to show the community that we are determined to fight the crime affecting our areas. He is warmly welcomed. If he needs any assistance, he can always talk to anyone in the station to navigate the area,” Ramotshela said.

While the Alberton Record communicated with Mohoebi and Ramotshela, we noted that schools are also a source of crime, so parents need to work with teachers and the SAPS to educate learners about the importance of not doing illegal activities.

“These things begin at home, so we appeal to parents to be open to their young ones about the consequences they might face if they find themselves on the wrong side of the law,” Mohoebi.

Mohoebi went through various dockets in the Alberton SAPS and is working to the best of his ability to ensure they try to resolve them swiftly.
