South Crest resident calls for urgent action after traffic light vandalism

A Southcrest resident is concerned about infrastructure vandalism, urging authorities to act swiftly after the traffic lights at a critical intersection were damaged.

I am a resident of South Crest and was recently shocked and dismayed to witness the brazen damage to the traffic lights at the intersection of Pieterse Street and Voortrekker Road.

This act of vandalism is deeply troubling, and I find it difficult to believe the extent of the damage.

It is clear this kind of infrastructure destruction is not isolated. Streetlights, road barriers and traffic lights are frequently stripped and stolen.

This ongoing trend is a direct assault on our community and its safety.

What is even more concerning is the uncertainty surrounding the repair of these vital traffic lights. Without proper functioning signals, the intersection is forced to rely on manual control, which is inefficient and hazardous.

These traffic lights are not merely a convenience. They are essential for maintaining safe traffic flow.

If these intersections were meant to function as four-way stops, they would have been designed as such.

The current situation is dangerous and untenable and demands immediate attention from the relevant authorities.

Our community should not have to endure these acts of vandalism, and I urge swift action to restore order and safety at this and other affected intersections.
