Alberton teen advocates for disabled community
She was diagnosed with scoliosis and uses her NPO to advocate for the inclusion of people living with disabilities.
Meet Ontshiametse Morare, aka Ontshi, an aspiring philanthropist and disabled community advocate from Alberton.
Ontshi is a 19-year-old who uses her voice to bring awareness to issues affecting the disabled community.
“Having grown up with scoliosis, I understand first-hand the challenges that can come with a disability, which is what inspired my commitment to promoting inclusion and accessibility for all,” said Ontshi.
She was diagnosed at 12 with this medical condition that makes the spine twist and curve to the side.
She established an NPO called Abilities United and uses it as a vehicle and advocacy group that speaks about issues affecting people living with disabilities.
“Through my NPO, Abilities United, I focus on closing the disability divide and supporting underprivileged communities. Recently, I hosted a special celebration at multiple orphanages in Johannesburg, where I donated resources and engaged with the residents to promote joy and inclusion,” added Ontshi.
Ontshi uses Abilities United’s Instagram account to post about its work, from feeding schemes to donating to the less fortunate.
