Hope on the horizon: Alberton Boulevard’s turnaround
The Alberton community and business owners are on a mission to make the Boulevard a pedestrian-friendly zone again.
In a proactive effort to revitalise the Boulevard area, Ward 106 residents and business owners gathered at the Alberton Mall to discuss investment growth and community development.
The meeting, themed ‘Investment Growth,’ sparked enthusiasm and collaboration among the attendees.
They identified key concerns, including:
• installing cameras to enhance security;
• the proper use of rubbish bins;
• maintaining cleanliness;
• regulating hawkers, ensuring they have the necessary permits and maintain their selling spaces;
• prioritising a comprehensive clean-up campaign.
Clr Tim Denny urged the community members to join the clean-up initiative.
To attract more visitors and revitalise the area, the residents suggested:
• A Christmas lights display;
• A battle of choirs competition;
• Sunday session events;
• Drum majorette performances;
• Blood donation drives;
• Street festivals;
• Restaurants and game tournaments;
• Buskers and singers.
The community was thrilled to learn that the former metro police office, currently occupied by homeless individuals, is being refurbished and will be used by the EMPD for daily operations, including affidavit services.
Denny highlighted the benefits, “This office will provide a permanent security presence, attracting people and assisting the community.”
The next meeting, scheduled for November 21, will give updates and progress reports.
Denny invites residents to participate in the clean-up campaign and contribute to the area’s revitalisation.
By working together, Ward 106 residents and business owners will transform the Boulevard area into a hub of activity, safety and community spirit.
