Brackenpark veld illicit activities terminated
EMPD and the Gauteng traffic warders visited the neglected Brackenpark veld to the community outcry.

In a significant development for the Albertsdal community, the local authorities launched a focused intervention to address growing concerns over a neglected veld behind the Bracken Park Community Hall, a site long plagued by crime, environmental hazards, and illegal occupation.
The veld, adjacent to a bustling road, has become a hotspot for illicit activities, including cable theft, drug dealing, and the unsafe occupation of the land by individuals living in makeshift shelters.

A month after the community reached out to Alberton Record regarding the crime and state of the veld behind Bracken Park Hall, councillor Samantha Nair confirmed EMPD and traffic wardens attended to the community’s cry.
The Alberton Record published an article on February 5, where residents expressed escalating fears for their safety as they navigated the area, with many calling for urgent and decisive action from authorities to restore peace and order.

In response to these concerns, a coordinated operation involving the EMPD and Gauteng Traffic Wardens was carried out on March 5 to clean and eradicate the problem.
The Alberton Record contacted the EMPD for additional comment regarding a permanent solution to ensure this issue does not occur again but has yet to receive a response.
