Alberton North resident’s plea for tree removal ignored for nearly two years
Despite nearly two years of pleas to the City of Ekurhuleni, a resident’s calls for the removal of a massive tree threatening her home have gone unanswered.
A concerned resident of Alberton North has been pleading with the City of Ekurhuleni for nearly two years to remove a large tree that she says poses a threat to her home and her family’s safety.
Despite logging numerous calls and sending multiple emails since June 2023, her requests remain unanswered.
The tree, located on municipal land, has reportedly grown to a size where it now leans heavily against the resident’s brick wall and extends over the roof of her home.

The troubled resident, Yolanda Engelbrecht, said that she fears that with the ongoing seasonal changes, including high winds and heavy rains, the tree could collapse at any moment, potentially causing extensive property damage or even injury.
“I have done everything I can to get help from the city. I have sent emails and made phone calls but I’ve had no action. Every day we live with the fear that these trees could fall,” Yolanda said.
The issue, she says, has not only created physical risks but also impacted her peace of mind and mental well-being.

The Alberton Record has reached out to the City of Ekurhuleni’s Department of Environmental Resources and Waste Management for comment.
At the time of publication, we are still awaiting a formal response. We will update the story as soon as a statement is received.
Residents facing similar issues are urged to document all communication with city officials and seek assistance from local councillors or other relevant places to amplify their concerns.
