Free Chapel Alberton winter drive receives overwhelming support

Alberton residents donated winter clothes - now the warmth will be shared with those who need it most.

As winter sets in, Free Chapel Alberton and Blunt Front Hair Studios celebrate the success of their recent blanket, beanie, and scarf drive, which saw an overwhelming response from the local community.

Thanks to generous donors, the drive surpassed its goal of collecting 80 blankets, beanies, and scarves.

They gave the overflow of donations to Remar South Africa, a home that supports abused women and children.

“We are grateful for everyone who contributed,” said Dorene van Tonder of Free Chapel Alberton.

“Your support has made a tangible difference in the lives of those we serve.”

The church will distribute the donated winter items on May 12 during the church’s regular feeding scheme for the homeless.

This effort will provide warmth, comfort, and hope to individuals who may otherwise face the cold winter nights without protection.

This year marked the first collaboration between Free Chapel Alberton and Blunt Front Hair Studios, a partnership both teams hope to continue for future outreach initiatives.

The Sisterhood Bible Book Club at Free Chapel continues to sort the donations, while volunteers and knitters across Alberton have contributed handmade items made with love and care.

With such strong community backing, organisers have confirmed that the drive will become an annual project.

The goal remains profound – to ensure no one in Alberton is left in the cold.
