WATCH: Grace’s recovery continues, family still needs help
Weeks after a falling cement basin crushed eight-year-old Grace continues to endure painful treatment and therapy.
It has been weeks since a falling cement basin crushed Grace Brooks’ (eight) fingers when washing her hands.
Grace returned to theatre at the Netcare Alberton Hospital for the 10th time on May 27 for stitches removal.
Dr Blok performed debridement on all the fingers and removed the stitches. Unfortunately, he had to remove the nail and the tip of her ring finger, adding stitches again, but they are dissolvable, so she will not have to go to theatre again.

Young Grace can attend her gymnastics lessons as soon as these stitches have dissolved.
She has an appointment with a hand therapist on May 30, and these appointments will happen weekly for five months.
Her fingers have healed remarkably well, and the therapist advised Grace’s family that they could remove the splints on the right hand.
Grace has shown good progress and should return to school in June.
@albertonrecordGrace has shown good progress and should return to school in June. Her family tried fundraising after the incident but was not very successful. Grace needs a healing cream costing R1 200 per bottle, and they can’t confirm how many bottles they will need. Her mother, Nadine, must stay at home with Grace for two months, so she has to take unpaid leave. However, bills still need paying. Grace’s family is still reaching out to the community for help to raise funds to help Grace on her road to recovery.
