WATCH: Khaya Xaba: From classroom jokes to South Africa’s telenovela stardom

Khayalethu Xaba has journeyed from making jokes in his high school classroom at Parklands High to gracing television screens across South Africa.

From cracking jokes in his high school classroom at Parklands High to lighting up television screens across South Africa, Khayalethu Xaba, affectionately known as Khaya, has come a long way.

With roles in some of the country’s most acclaimed telenovelas and collaborations with legendary actors, his humility and deep passion for storytelling remain at the heart of his rising career.

Khaya’s journey into acting wasn’t about chasing fame. It was about answering a calling.

“I’m not doing acting for fame or to be a celebrity. I do it because it’s a calling. I believe I was chosen to tell these stories and bring hope to people,” he says.

Grounded and sincere, Khaya is still the same person he was before fame. He is often spotted in the most unexpected places, never chasing the spotlight, just living his truth.

Since the start of his career, Khaya has appeared in some of South Africa’s top telenovelas. His impressive resume includes Ko Strateng on Moja Love, Lavish on Mzansi Magic, Godman on SABC 1, Shaka iLembe on MultiChoice, Disaster Holiday on Netflix, and currently, Smoke & Mirrors, which is one of the country’s most popular telenovelas.

In Lavish, Khaya landed his first major role and had the privilege of working alongside veteran actor Sdumo Mtshali, someone he had admired for years. “I met my hero, and he embraced me as his actual son,” Khaya recalls warmly.

Later, in Smoke & Mirrors, he worked with another industry heavyweight, Zolisa Xaluva, who played his stepfather in the series. “I was excited, and he was just as excited to work with me. It was confusing to me that someone like him would be impressed working with me,” he says with a smile.

Now, Khaya’s eyes are set on the global stage. He dreams of sharing the screen with international stars like Kevin Hart and Jamie Foxx.

“I can’t wait to meet them on set,” he says with quiet confidence.

Even with his growing success, Khaya stays rooted in his purpose. He continues to inspire the next generation of storytellers, urging them to stay authentic and not be swayed by industry trends.

“Believe in yourself,” he encourages. “Don’t lose your identity trying to fit in.”

Khayalethu Xaba is more than just an actor. He is a storyteller, a role model, and a reminder that greatness does not require arrogance, just purpose, passion, and perseverance.
