On August 9, the Alberton Lions Club organised one of their most heartfelt projects of the year: Christmas in Winter, formerly known as Christmas in July.

More than half of the club members and many Friends of the Lions volunteered in various roles, including sorting games equipment, making sandwiches, packing goody bags, coordinating learners and educators from local schools, buying food and sweets, collecting requirements, boiling eggs and making lists.

On August 10, the Club prepared breakfast and lunch for 149 vulnerable primary school learners from 17 schools in Katlehong and enjoyed playing games with them.

A great deal of effort goes into this project to ensure the day runs smoothly and that these learners experience a day filled with memories, laughter and love.

The Alberton Lions Club also celebrated Women’s Day by handing out cupcakes and sweets to the ladies.

The club extends its gratitude to Abram Hlophe Primary School for hosting the event and to all the educators who brought the children.

They also thank Pick n Pay, Bracken City and the community for their generous donations during July. Pick n Pay hosted a collection box in their store and the Lions are grateful for all the community contributions in support of those in need.

“We received clothing, blankets, food and other goods, and with the help of kind hearts, we have made a difference by bringing warmth to many people in Alberton,” said Alberton Lions Club Secretary Melinda Strydom.

The Alberton Lions Club invites everyone in the area to get involved by giving their time, donating goods or simply offering gratitude.

Having served the Alberton community for 55 years, the Club continues its work with love and kindness.
As a registered PBO/NPO, they can issue Section 18A certificates to corporates.
