1000 Reasons Walk – join them on Friday
When you walk for a reason, you will find many reasons to start a walk in aid of those in need. Have you ever given any thought to why you might want to walk 500 km?
On September 12, a group will start the 1000 Reasons Walk, stretching over 500 km to KwaZulu-Natal, beginning at the Alberton Police Station.
They will gather at about 06:30 and aim to get going at 09:00 in a walk they describe as a walk for South Africa’s most vulnerable.
Every step they take will be a voice for the voiceless, the homeless, the unemployed, and those who have lost hope.
One of the organisers, Deon, said, “We will all be walking for different reasons, and there are 1000 reasons to walk and to take part in this walk.”
Deon, once in the clutches of drugs, will not only walk to celebrate his freedom but also to collect donations of cash and goods to help others in need.
“You can assist us by being part of the change. Donate shoes, tekkies, sleeping bags, water, and more, or join us for a leg of the walk. Spread the word and share our mission with family and friends who can join us as we go along. You can also sponsor a kilometre at R1 per kilometre.”
Upon their return, they hope to have resources to set up small businesses, such as garden services. “We want to help those who have lost hope. Together we can turn steps into second chances.”
