Community support needed for Ashula siblings’ trip to national athletics

Every donation brings Mzwandile and Esona Ashula closer to representing Alberton Christian Academy at the nationals.

Alberton Christian Academy athletes, Mzwandile and Esona Ashula, recently held a fundraiser at McDonald’s Alberton, and extend a thank you to Chommy Thabile and the staff for making the event possible.

While the fundraiser brought significant support, the siblings have not yet reached their full target to attend the SACSSA National Athletics Championships in Durban on September 26.

Mzwandile has been recognised for his determination and commitment to athletics. His mother shared with the Alberton Record:

“Mzwandile could’ve made it to nationals one year ago, but he has worked incredibly hard through constant gym training and with support from his school coach, to earn his place this year. This achievement will be a life changer in his athletic career.

As a parent, we are ensuring Mzwandile and Esona doesn’t miss this opportunity, despite the school being unable to provide transport or accommodation. With support from the McDonald’s fundraiser and funds accumulated so far, we were able to purchase spikes running shoes for both Mzwandile and Esona at Sportsman’s in Alberton.”

“We appreciate the opportunities available for athletes like Mzwandile and Esona.”
