Kliprivier SAPS raises GBV awareness with community march at Randvaal Clinic

Kliprivier SAPS joined stakeholders at Randvaal Clinic for GBV awareness session and community march with a symbolic balloon release.

The Randvaal community observed an important Gender-Based Violence (GBV) awareness event on November 21 at Randvaal Clinic.

The programme, which started at 08:00, brought together members of the SAPS, the Department of Health, the Department of Community Safety, and Siyabangena Patrollers.

Awareness session at the clinic

The event began with an awareness session inside the clinic, where patients and staff listened to police presentations on GBV. The presentation included statistics and guidance on reporting procedures.

The Department of Community Safety delivered a talk highlighting that men also experience abuse, explaining that many men avoid reporting due to fear and social stigma.

The session concluded with a candle-lighting ceremony and prayer, symbolising unity and a shared commitment to stand against GBV.

Sergeant Ndhambi of Kliprivier SAPS said the programme was an opportunity to educate the community.

She emphasised that the session helped people understand how cases should be reported and reminded attendees that GBV affects different groups within society.

Community march and balloon release

The second part of the event was a 1km march outside the clinic, during which participants carried purple balloons to show their support for the fight against GBV.

At the end of the route, the balloons were released as a symbolic expression of hope for a safer community.
