The event was organised by a local women’s group and church leaders from the community.

Nations are judged by how they treat their most vulnerable and weakest members, some of whom are the elderly.

To honour its senior citizens, Eden Park’s Rainbow Women’s League organised a luncheon for the elderly.

Held at the at J.D. Thomas Community Hall in Eden Park, the lunch saw dozens of elderly women from the community gather to get served with a meal and a hamper.

The Rainbow Women’s League, in collaboration with local faith leaders, opened the gathering with a prayer and sermon led by Pastor Frank Wrench.

Pastor Wrench emphasised the importance of caring for the community, especially the elderly.

Commenting on the gathering, Pastor Wrench said: “We are here to serve the elderly with lunch and to give them hampers. This work could not have been possible without the support of donors and supporters – the Lord will bless them for the good gesture, for their ploughing back into the community,, and for serving the senior citizens of their town.”

The event was preceded by song and prayer. Sister Mackay Koopman and Pastor Wrench gave speeches.

They committed to hosting more events aimed at uplifting members of the Eden Park community.

Other highlights of the event included an introduction of the field workers who were part of the organising team, dancing with the stars sounds by DJ Scott, a vote of thanks, and a closing prayer.
