While some suspects were reportedly shot dead and others injured, authorities have not yet confirmed the exact number of fatalities or wounded.
Johannesburg Metropolitan Police Department (JMPD) spokesperson Xolani Fihla said law enforcement and emergency medical services are currently on the scene. Heavy traffic is building as motorists attempt to divert from the area.

“Motorists are strongly urged to avoid the N12 West heading towards Uncle Charlie’s and the Diepkloof Interchange. Please exercise extreme caution when approaching the vicinity,” Fihla said.
Motorists are advised to use the Xavier Street exit to navigate around the closure.
Alternatively, the M1 North or South can serve as a bypass, while the Golden Highway provides another route around the affected area.
