Azania Movement pledges ongoing support to Stepping Stone Hospice
A generous donation and year-long pledge bring renewed hope and vital support to Stepping Stone Hospice
Stepping Stone Hospice and Care Services has received a boost of support from the Azania Movement, following a generous donation made on January 21 and a series of long-term commitments aimed at strengthening patient care and staff well-being.
In a message of appreciation, the Hospice expressed heartfelt gratitude to Azania Movement president, Nolubabalo Mcinga, for the contribution, describing it as a great way to start the year.
The donation included a variety of essential items, helping to meet the everyday needs of patients receiving specialist palliative care.
What has particularly moved the Hospice community is Azania Movement’s extraordinary pledge to donate tissues on the first day of every month throughout 2026.
This sustained commitment reflects an understanding of the ongoing nature of Hospice care and the continuous needs of patients and families.
The pledge, grounded in the values of justice, dignity and Ubuntu, was praised as a powerful example of community-led compassion in action.
In addition to material support, Azania Movement has also undertaken to organise a team of psychologists to provide therapy services to Hospice staff, including nurses and care workers.
This initiative recognises the emotional demands placed on those who care for seriously ill patients and offers vital support to strengthen the well-being of frontline caregivers.
Stepping Stone Hospice’s leadership highlighted how such support sustains its mission to provide high-quality, specialist care to people whose conditions no longer respond to curative treatment.
The organisation remains committed to meeting patients’ physical, psychological, spiritual and social needs, while also ensuring that families receive support during and after difficult times.
The Hospice operates on the principle that no patient or family is ever turned away, regardless of their ability to afford care.
With a strong reliance on community generosity and fundraising efforts, partnerships such as the one with Azania Movement are seen as essential to keeping its doors open.
Stepping Stone Hospice CEO, Tersia Burger, conveyed sincere thanks on behalf of the board and staff, noting that the support helps the Hospice deliver on its promise that patients and families are never alone.
She also expressed regret at not being able to meet Mcinga in person but reaffirmed the organisation’s appreciation for the kindness and solidarity shown.
The Hospice has encouraged ongoing engagement with supporters and the broader community, underlining that contributions of any kind play a critical role in sustaining compassionate end-of-life care.
With gratitude and warm wishes, Stepping Stone Hospice has described Azania Movement’s involvement as invaluable, marking the beginning of what it hopes will be a lasting, meaningful partnership in the service of those most in need.
