Klipwater residents raise crime and safety concerns during community engagement
Residents of Klipwater used a community engagement meeting with police and local stakeholders to highlight safety concerns ranging from cable theft and roaming cattle to heavy traffic along the R550.
Residents of Klipwater raised several safety and infrastructure concerns during a recent community engagement session with Kliprivier SAPS, Gauteng Traffic Wardens, and CPF.
The programme was held on March 4 at the Final Turning Point Ministry.
According to Sergeant Ndhambi, the meeting created a platform for residents to voice concerns affecting their daily lives and safety in the area.
“During the engagement, community members raised several concerns affecting the area,” said Ndhambi.
Among the key issues highlighted was heavy traffic along the R550 heading towards the R59, which residents said often causes congestion and safety risks.
Community members also raised concerns about cattle roaming unattended in the area and walking through sewage, warning that the situation could contribute to the spread of foot-and-mouth disease.
Another concern discussed was cable theft. Residents said some suspects are using empty plots as access routes to steal cables.
Despite these challenges, the community commended local police for their efforts to maintain safety in the area.
Ndhambi said the meeting also served as an opportunity to strengthen communication between residents and authorities.
Essential emergency contact numbers were shared with residents to help improve response times and encourage the reporting of criminal activity.
Station commander Lieutenant Colonel LJ Mofokeng noted that the meeting also revealed the community’s willingness to work with law enforcement.
He said many residents are eager to assist in the fight against crime and support efforts to keep the area safe.
