WATCH: Alberton SPCA reopens sterilisation clinic
The Alberton SPCA has reopened its sterilisation clinic to help curb animal overpopulation and improve animal welfare in the community
The Alberton SPCA has reopened its sterilisation clinic on Lincoln Road in General Alberts Park to help reduce animal overpopulation.
The clinic operates on Tuesdays, with the option to add Wednesdays and Thursdays if bookings increase significantly.
The SPCA also offers spaying and neutering for cats and dogs.

The clinic has been refurbished using donations the SPCA has received over the years.
The local SPCA has also worked closely with Dr Donna Kruger from Hennie Alberts Veterinary Clinic, whose support and contributions have been instrumental in helping the facility reopen.
To encourage pet owners to sterilise their animals, the clinic is offering a 20% opening special for the first month, and the cost of sterilisation is based on a sliding scale depending on a person’s income.

Veterinarian Dr Nick Temlett is helping run the clinic after it had been closed for nearly two years due to a shortage of veterinarians.
He also urged companies and organisations to sponsor sterilisation procedures for animals from underprivileged households on a monthly basis.
“There is a serious shortage of veterinarians in the country. Without a vet on-site, a clinic cannot operate. That shortage is one of the reasons the facility was unable to run for such a long time,” he said.

As an NPO, the SPCA relies on public support. Community members and businesses are encouraged to support the initiative to ensure that the clinic can continue helping animals in need and preventing overpopulation in the community.
For bookings and donations, pet owners are encouraged to visit the SPCA or contact the SPCA directly at 011 907 1568 to schedule an appointment.
