WATCH: SASSA outreach programme assists Eden Park residents with grant applications

The SASSA outreach programme is aimed at making social services more accessible to communities.

Residents turned out in large numbers at Eden Park Community Hall on March 10 as the South African Social Security Agency (SASSA) hosted an outreach programme to bring grant services closer to the community.

Community members were assisted with applications for the old-age grant, the child support grant, and the child support top-up grant during the visit.

SASSA Kathorus office manager Marelato Mbethe said the outreach programme was introduced to ensure residents can access services conveniently within their communities.

“We are here in Eden Park to bring services directly to the community. Today we are assisting residents with applications for old age grants, child support grants and the child support top-up grant,” Mbethe explained.

She added that the initiative also aims to reduce the pressure on SASSA offices and make services more accessible to residents who travel long distances.

“There is only one office in Thokoza for such a big area, so we are bringing services closer to people to reduce long queues and ensure that our clients do not suffer because of taxi fares,” she said.

“Today we are starting in Eden Park, and we will continue in other areas as well. We will announce when we take the services to other communities,” she added.
