Kliprivier SAPS strengthens ties with residents at Eye of Africa safety engagement

Community voices take centre stage as police address crime trends and safety concerns during a local engagement meeting.

Community concerns around safety and policing took centre stage when Kliprivier SAPS hosted a community engagement at Eye of Africa Estate on March 11, aimed at strengthening collaboration between residents and law enforcement.

Rather than focusing solely on crime statistics, the engagement created a platform for open dialogue, enabling residents to raise concerns directly affecting their daily lives and sense of security.

Among the key issues discussed were incidents of jewellery theft, fraud linked to online shopping transactions, and cases of domestic violence reported within the estate.

However, much of the discussion shifted towards broader safety challenges beyond individual crimes.

Residents highlighted environmental factors contributing to vulnerability, particularly limited lighting in areas outside the estate.

Poor visibility, they said, creates opportunities for criminal activity and heightens fear among those travelling in and out of the area.

The issue of police visibility also emerged strongly, with community members calling for a more consistent presence in surrounding areas.

Questions were raised about how residents can identify legitimate police officers during operations, reflecting growing concerns about safety and trust.

Issues about police resources and staffing levels were also raised, as residents sought clarity on whether there is sufficient manpower to effectively service the area.

SAPS acknowledged these concerns and emphasised the importance of ongoing collaboration between the police and the community.

“The engagement was constructive and well-received. It is through platforms like these that we are able to listen, respond and work together with the community to improve safety,” said Sergeant Ndhambi.

The meeting forms part of ongoing efforts by Kliprivier SAPS to build stronger relationships with residents, recognising that effective policing relies not only on enforcement but also on active community participation.

As safety challenges continue to evolve, both residents and law enforcement agreed that sustained engagement and shared responsibility will be key to creating a safer environment.
