Local church group wraps Stepping Stone patients in warmth

Council for Health Services Accreditation of Southern Africa (CoHSASA) and 5-star Association of Palliative Care Centres (APCC) accredited hospice, Stepping Stone Hospice recently received a kind donation of hand-knitted blankets.

A recent visit from a kind-hearted community member, Ute Tepper, left the Stepping Stone Hospice team feeling overwhelmed with gratitude.

Ute arrived bearing a generous donation of beautifully hand-knitted blankets lovingly crafted by the Witgoud Group of Alberton West Dutch Reformed Church.

For the patients in Stepping Stone’s care, many of whom are navigating some of the most challenging and tender seasons of their lives, the blankets represent far more than physical warmth.

Each carefully knitted stitch carries with it a message of hope and the comforting knowledge that their community stands behind them, even in the darkest of hours.

The Witgoud Group, known for its devoted service and community spirit, poured their time, skill, and compassion into every single blanket.

Tersia Burger, founder and CEO of Stepping Stone Hospice, expressed her heartfelt appreciation, stating that this selfless act speaks volumes about the character of this remarkable group of women.

“We are so deeply moved by the kindness and generosity of the Witgoud Group. When a patient receives one of these beautiful blankets, they are not just receiving warmth; they’re receiving a reminder that they are loved and not forgotten by their community. We’re incredibly grateful to Ute and every member of the Witgoud Group for thinking of our patients with such love,” said Tersia.

Stepping Stone continues to serve the local community with palliative and end-of-life care, and relies greatly on the goodwill and support of community members and organisations to help bring comfort and dignity to its patients.
