A suspected taxi-related shooting in Alberton has claimed one life and left two others seriously wounded, with high-calibre rifle rounds and a bullet-riddled Mercedes-Benz GLE found at the scene.

Three men were shot in a suspected taxi-related incident near the Voortrekker Road off-ramp to N12 in Alberton, prompting a large emergency response.

One man was declared dead at the scene, while two others sustained serious injuries.

Emergency medical services, including Netcare 911, responded swiftly and began treating the injured before transporting them to hospital for further care.

The area was secured as investigators began preliminary assessments.

A white Mercedes-Benz GLE, found at the scene, was heavily riddled with bullet holes, indicating the intensity of the attack.

Spent cartridges believed to be from an AK-47 rifle were recovered, further pointing to the use of high-calibre weaponry.

While the exact circumstances surrounding the shooting remain under investigation, it is suspected that the incident may be linked to taxi-related violence in the region, a recurring issue that has previously led to deadly confrontations.

Police have not yet released the identities of the victims, and no arrests have been confirmed at this stage. Investigations are ongoing.
