Community steps up for meaningful cause at Dare to Walk event

Abishai Academy brings residents together to raise funds for school shoes, supporting learners with dignity and pride.

What threatened to be a rain-soaked setback turned into a powerful triumph of unity as Abishai Academy’s Dare to Walk event brought the community together in remarkable fashion.

Hosted at Rovers Football Club, the event pushed ahead despite early showers, with the skies soon giving way to a spirited turnout.

Families, friends and supporters arrived in numbers, undeterred and ready to walk with purpose.

The atmosphere quickly shifted from uncertainty to celebration, filled with encouragement, laughter and a shared determination to make a difference.

More than just a walk, the initiative carried a meaningful mission.

Funds raised will go towards providing school shoes for children in need, a simple yet impactful contribution that restores dignity and confidence, while ensuring learners are equipped to attend school with pride.

The event showcased the strength of collective action, with every step taken symbolising hope and tangible change for young people within the community.

Abishai Academy expressed sincere appreciation to Rovers Football Club for not only hosting the event but also arranging a DJ, which added a lively pulse to the gathering.

Gratitude was also extended to the vendors Creative Impressions, Daisies Café, Adelicious Coffee, Raymond’s Arts and Crafts, JS Caters and Karen’s Creations, whose participation enriched the overall experience.

Participants themselves were recognised as the heart of the initiative, with organisers applauding their willingness to stand together for a cause greater than themselves.

As an institution offering the CAPS curriculum from Grade R to Grade 12, Abishai Academy continues to go beyond academics, championing values of compassion, leadership and social responsibility.

The Dare to Walk event stands as a clear reflection of this ethos in action.

Closing the day on a note of inspiration, Brandon Olivier captured the spirit of the event, saying: “Even in the face of uncertain weather, a united community can rise, walk together, and create lasting impact.”
