Martins Academy marks decade of excellence at milestone prize-giving ceremony

Martins Academy celebrates its 10th anniversary alongside its annual prize-giving, honouring top achievers and reflecting on a decade of educational excellence and community impact.

Martins Academy recently celebrated a significant milestone, marking its 10th anniversary alongside its annual prize-giving ceremony in an event that honoured both its history and its continued commitment to educational excellence.

Established in 2016, the academy has, over the past decade, grown into a respected institution guided by its motto, Perveniens Altum Major (Reaching Greater Heights).

The dual celebration offered an opportunity for reflection on 10 years of steady progress, resilience, and dedication to nurturing well-rounded learners.

The anniversary event brought together learners, parents, staff, and members of the wider community, all of whom have contributed to the school’s journey.

Addressing attendees, headmaster Melanie Ferreira-Martins, said that over the years, Martins Academy has successfully navigated an evolving educational landscape, maintaining a stable and high-quality learning environment where learners are encouraged to achieve their personal best both academically and personally.

She said that central to the academy’s success has been its focus on holistic development.

“Beyond the classroom, the school has prioritised building strong community connections and creating opportunities for learners to engage with real-world experiences. This approach has been instrumental in shaping confident, capable individuals prepared to contribute meaningfully to society,” Ferreira-Martins said.

During the ceremony, several organisations and individuals were recognised for their ongoing support and involvement in learner development.

These included Habibi Properties, Protective Force, Warrant Officer Lindi Moloi and Wilanna Olivier, all of whom have enriched the school community through workshops, motivational talks, and various outreach initiatives.

The event also shone a spotlight on academic excellence, with the 2025 prize-giving segment celebrating learners who demonstrated outstanding achievement, perseverance, and resilience throughout the year.

Awards were presented across a range of categories, highlighting not only top academic performers but also those who showed remarkable personal growth.

Ferreira-Martins reflected on the institution’s journey and the values that have shaped its identity over the past 10 years.

“The last 10 years are a reflection of growth, resilience and the power of community. While we are proud of the academic achievements of our learners, we are equally proud of the individuals they are becoming. Individuals who understand the value of hard work, character, and contributing to the world around them,” she explained.

She added that the anniversary was not only a celebration of past accomplishments but also a moment to look ahead with renewed purpose.

“As we celebrate this milestone, we remain committed to reaching even greater heights, continuing to support and inspire every learner who walks through our doors,” Ferreira-Martins said.
