Tokende Africa calls for sponsors for 250-learner educational tour to Johannesburg
A group of 250 learners is set to explore Johannesburg through an educational tour led by Tokende Africa, with the organisation appealing to local sponsors to help make the initiative possible.
Tokende Africa, founded by young entrepreneur Sandile Popi, continues to grow its footprint in the educational tourism space after securing a major partnership with Uminathi Christian College in KwaZulu-Natal.
The partnership will see 250 learners travel to Johannesburg in August for a carefully curated educational tour aimed at bridging the gap between classroom learning and real-world experience.
According to Popi, the initiative reflects a shared commitment to youth development, experiential learning, and the growth of domestic tourism.
“This tour is more than just a journey. It is an opportunity to inspire learners to explore future careers, engage with South Africa’s tourism sector, and create lifelong memories,” he said.
The multi-day programme will introduce learners to key cultural, historical, and educational landmarks across Johannesburg.
Activities include a guided city tour, museum visits, wildlife experiences, and a stop at the Nelson Mandela Foundation, where learners will engage with the legacy of Nelson Mandela.
Popi believes the exposure will not only benefit the learners but also contribute to the local tourism economy.
“By bringing young people into spaces like Johannesburg, we are promoting domestic tourism while also empowering the next generation,” he explained.
To ensure the success of the initiative, Tokende Africa is calling on sponsors and partners to support the tour through funding, services, or resources.
The goal is to make the experience inclusive, impactful, and accessible to all participating learners.
The tour is scheduled to begin on August 27, with learners departing from KwaZulu-Natal and arriving in Johannesburg later that day.
This milestone marks another step forward for Tokende Africa as it continues to position itself as a leader in educational tourism, using travel as a tool to empower young people and create meaningful opportunities.
