Alberton Lions Club and Life On The Street continue feeding 200 homeless people

For the past four years, the Alberton Lions Club, in partnership with Life On The Streets, has been providing warm meals to around 200 homeless people

The Alberton Lions Club has proudly partnered with Life On The Street (LOTS) on a meaningful community initiative to feed approximately 200 homeless people in Alberton.

Every Thursday, for the past four years, Lions members together with Friends of the Lions spend several hours preparing and chopping vegetables for the large-scale cooking effort.

Preparing meals for so many people is no small task, and the club remains deeply grateful for the ongoing support received from community members who generously volunteer their time and contribute towards the project.

Each week, warm meals are prepared, and bread or fatcakes are buttered and served alongside the food to provide a wholesome, filling meal for those in need.

Ingredients are either donated by community members or supplied by LOTS.

Lion Leslie Airey, together with LOTS member Sibongile Zikalala, oversees the food preparation process to ensure everything runs smoothly each week.

Once the meals are cooked, members of LOTS distribute the food to three designated areas within Alberton where homeless individuals gather.

According to the Alberton Lions Club, the initiative has become about more than simply preparing meals.

It has created a valuable opportunity for fellowship, teamwork and community involvement while makinga meaningful difference in the lives of vulnerable people.

The club encourages community members who would like to get involved to lend a hand; additional volunteers and support are always welcome.

For more information or to assist with the project, community members may contact Lion Leslie Airey on 066 243 3076 or Eric McKechnie from LOTS on 082 570 4330.
