Alberton Lions Club bring hope and support to Johannesburg South Creches
The Alberton Lions Club held a World Hunger Day project aimed at supporting vulnerable members of the community by distributing food and essential groceries to local creches and families in need
For more than four years, Alberton Lions Club continues to play an important role in supporting vulnerable children and struggling families through its ongoing feeding and community support programme at several creches in Johannesburg South.
The club held a World Hunger Day project on May 28, distributing food to local creches and families in need across the south of Johannesburg.
Every two weeks, members of the Lions Club purchase and deliver fresh fruit and vegetables to five local creches, helping ensure that children receive nutritious meals.

The support reaches creches in South Hills and La Rochelle, including Oaks of Hope Creche, Vivian’s Creche, Luvies Creche and Bright Beginners Creche.
The organisation also provides non-perishable food items every few months, depending on available sponsorships and donations. These include maize meal, flour, oil, sugar, beans, bread, tea and other basic necessities.

According to Lions member Sandy King, the project was started to assist creches where many parents struggle to afford school fees and proper nutrition for their children.
“We know many parents cannot always afford to pay fees, so we try to supplement what the creches already have and help provide enough food for the children,” she said.
The Lions have also assisted with other urgent needs. They sourced additional mattresses for children at Bright Beginners Creche after discovering that several children were sharing a single mattress during nap time.

“They never gave up on us. They supported us before Covid, during Covid and even now during difficult times. If it were not for the Lions, I may have closed a long time ago.
“Whatever they bring makes a huge difference because food prices are very high and many parents cannot afford to pay. I pray that God blesses them abundantly for what they are doing for these children and the community,” said Anna Maseko from Oaks of Hope Creche.
The Alberton Lions Club continues to appeal to sponsors and community members to assist them in supporting local creches and families in need.
