Street Store brings hope and dignity to more than 1 500 Alberton residents

More than 250 volunteers joined forces at Ligstad to provide clothing, food, toiletries and encouragement to over 1,500 vulnerable community members during Alberton's annual Street Store project

A total of 1 543 vulnerable community members received clothing, food, toiletries and encouragement when over 250 volunteers came together at Ligstad in Alberton for the annual Street Store Project on May 30.

The initiative, organised by Doxa Deo Meyersdal in partnership with churches, organisations, businesses and community groups, welcomed and served people from vulnerable communities across Alberton.

The event provided an opportunity for those in need to experience the dignity of choosing essential items in a shopping-style environment.

Visitors received clothing, shoes, toiletries, food, fresh fruit, prayer and words of encouragement.

The aim of the project was not only to meet practical needs but also to restore dignity and bring hope to individuals and families facing difficult circumstances.

Among the organisations that participated was the Alberton Lions Club, whose members worked alongside Friends of the Lions and numerous volunteers throughout the day.

Volunteers assisted with organising donations, welcoming guests and ensuring the smooth running of the event.

Preparations for the Street Store began weeks in advance. Volunteers spent countless hours collecting, sorting and packing donated items to ensure that everything was ready for distribution on the day.

Special recognition was given to Lion Lana Frey, who dedicated her time alongside other volunteers to prepare the donations.

A special thank you was extended to Rene Cloete of Doxa Deo Meyersdal for leading the project and coordinating the efforts of the many partners involved.
