Fresh road markings boost safety outside a school in Alberton
AfriForum Alberton volunteers rolled up their sleeves to refresh faded road markings outside President Steyn Primary School, helping to improve visibility and safety for learners, parents and motorists.
Road safety outside President Steyn Primary School received a welcome boost when AfriForum Alberton members repainted faded road markings at the school on June 6.
The volunteer team focused on the busy area around the school entrance, repainting the pedestrian crossing, refreshing road markings and restoring stop lines on both sides of the road.
The project was undertaken after concerns about the poor condition of the markings, which are important for guiding motorists and protecting learners crossing the road.

According to AfriForum Alberton, members visited the school to “address the poor condition of the road markings in front of the school”.
The newly painted pedestrian crossing and stop lines are expected to improve visibility for drivers, particularly during peak school traffic periods. The organisation also called on motorists to play their part in keeping the area safe.
“We urge all motorists to please slow down and exercise caution at the corners of Braun and Bloutulp streets, where there is a three-way stop,” the branch said.
Volunteers reportedly witnessed several incidents of reckless driving while working. “While our members were working, several motorists showed a complete disregard for traffic signs and the safety of the team,” the organisation stated.
AfriForum also reported that a motorcyclist allegedly rode through the work area while the painting was underway, endangering volunteers on site. Despite these challenges, the branch thanked its members for their time in assisting the community.

“We appreciate the efforts of our members who volunteered their time to improve road safety for the school children and the community,” the branch said.
The organisation encouraged all road users to be considerate and responsible behind the wheel. “Let’s all do our part to look out for one another on the roads. Drive safely!”
The refreshed markings are a welcome improvement for learners, parents, and residents who use the intersection daily, highlighting how community-driven initiatives can contribute to safer roads in Alberton.
