MMC takes insourcing roadshow to Alberton workers
Hundreds of cleaners and security officers gathered in Alberton recently as MMC Siphumule Ntombela outlined the City of Ekurhuleni’s plans to insource workers and explained how the phased recruitment process will unfold.
Contract cleaners and security officers in Alberton received first-hand information about the City of Ekurhuleni’s insourcing plans during a recent roadshow led by MMC for Corporate and Shared Services Siphumule Ntombela.
The engagement formed part of a two-legged roadshow aimed at preparing workers for the city’s insourcing programme and addressing concerns surrounding the application process.
The session, held in Alberton, gave cleaners and security officers the opportunity to hear directly from the MMC about what they can expect as the city moves forward with plans to bring workers into its employ.
According to the city, the roadshows were organised to provide clarity on the insourcing process and to help ensure workers are ready to submit their applications.

“The roadshows provided an opportunity for the MMC to explain the insourcing process to contractors and offer insight into its implementation,” the city said.
The initiative follows a number of challenges and questions raised by workers regarding the process.
Ntombela said it was important that those affected receive accurate information and understand thesteps involved. With the first phase of applications closing on June 10, the MMC encouraged workers who may not be included immediately not to lose hope.
“He encouraged everyone not to be discouraged, as recruitment will be rolled out in phases, following a council-conducted study,” the city explained.
Ntombela also stressed that he would like to see all current contract cleaners and security officers absorbed as quickly as possible. “He emphasised his desire to see all contract cleaners and security officers employed in the first phase,” the city stated.
However, he noted that financial constraints remain a challenge. According to Ntombela, the process cannot be implemented all at once due to budget limitations following an unsupported budget tabled by several political parties last week.
The roadshow was welcomed by workers seeking greater certainty about their future employment prospects and forms part of the city’s ongoing efforts to communicate directly with affected employees.
As the insourcing programme progresses, the city is expected to continue engaging workers and providing updates on future recruitment phases.
