New HIV prevention injection now available at selected Ekurhuleni clinics
Lenacapavir, a new long-acting HIV prevention injection that provides protection for up to six months, is now available at selected Ekurhuleni clinics, giving residents another option to help reduce their risk of HIV infection.
Residents across the City of Ekurhuleni are encouraged to familiarise themselves with a new HIV prevention option now available at selected public healthcare facilities in Gauteng.
The Gauteng Department of Health recently announced that Lenacapavir, a long-acting HIV prevention injection administered once every six months, is now available at selected facilities across the City of Ekurhuleni.
According to the department, individuals must first undergo an HIV test before starting Lenacapavir.
Health officials have also stressed that the injection does not replace condoms and that combination prevention remains the most effective approach to reducing the risk of HIV infection.
In Ekurhuleni, the injection is available at selected facilities, including Palm Ridge Clinic, Phola Park Community Health Centre, Germiston City Clinic and Katlehong North Clinic.
Lenacapavir offers an additional HIV prevention option for people who may be at risk of contracting the virus and are looking for a long-acting alternative to daily prevention methods.
The Gauteng Department of Health has encouraged residents interested in the injection to visit their nearest participating clinic or healthcare facility for more information and to determine whether the treatment is suitable for them.
Residents are advised to consult healthcare professionals regarding eligibility requirements and the necessary HIV testing process before commencing treatment.
