Alberton Methodist Church Women’s Auxiliary unites to create hope and comfort for children in need

More than 40 women gathered for a morning of fellowship and service as they handcrafted essential and inspirational items to support nine foster children and prepare for future arrivals at the Temporary Place of Safety.

The Alberton Methodist Church Women’s Auxiliary brought together compassion, creativity and community spirit on June 13 during a special outreach meeting to support children at the Temporary Place of Safety.

A total of 42 women attended the event, where they worked side by side to prepare handmade items that will help create a welcoming and nurturing environment for children in foster care.

The ladies sewed toiletry bags, crocheted little worry worms for welcome packs, made blessing blankets, created facecloths, prepared play-dough for children, and painted inspirational messages to brighten the rooms at the facility.

Beautiful baby blankets and other baby items were also crocheted and collected in preparation for future needs within the wider community.

Pastor James addressed those in attendance, sharing statistics on foster children in Alberton and highlighting the ongoing need for community support. Rev Jeff and his wife, Pastor Ashleigh, also visited the gathering to express their gratitude for the work being undertaken by the Women’s Auxiliary.

Guests enjoyed delicious soup, rolls and sweets while exchanging ideas and strengthening fellowship throughout the morning.

The Women’s Auxiliary said its main aim is to serve, support, inspire and spread God’s love and mercy to those in need.

The group is preparing gifts and practical items for the nine foster children staying at the Temporary Place of Safety, while also ensuring supplies are available should babies or additional children arrive in future.

Sandra Humans described the preparations as an exciting challenge and encouraged the church and broader community to become involved in supporting the initiative.

Their goal is not only to meet immediate needs but also to ensure every child entering the Temporary Place of Safety is welcomed with warmth, dignity and care.
