WATCH: Alberton SAPS, security companies meet over planned June 30 protests

Alberton SAPS station commander, Colonel Olivein Letloenyane, is confident with the state of readiness for planned protests on June 30.

A multi-stakeholder meeting led by Alberton SAPS, in collaboration with security companies such as CPS, Fox, SOG, and Sentinel, the CPF and other anti-crime formations was held on June 25.

Held at the detectives’ office in Alberton, top of the agenda were the planned anti-migrant protests on June 30.

“We are strategising on how to assist each other to make and keep Alberton as one of the safest places during the planned protests,” said Colonel Olivein Letloenyane from Alberton SAPS.

Letloenyane said they expect no disturbances in the suburb but added they are ready for any unexpected scenarios stemming from the planned protest.

“Our industrial areas, malls and the CBDs will be open and operational,” he said.

An organisation called March and March has been at the forefront of these calls and has been pressuring government to act on illegal migration to SA by undocumented migrants.

These calls have sparked anti-migrant sentiments in many parts of the country, which culminated in the June 30 deadline for undocumented migrants to leave SA.
