New youth organisation seeks business partnerships to tackle unemployment in Greenfield
A newly established youth organisation in Greenfield is calling on local companies to partner with it in creating employment opportunities for young people while advocating for greater youth representation in the community.
A newly registered youth organisation, Ekurhuleni Progressive Youth Movement (EPYM), based in Greenfields, is calling on businesses to partner with it to create employment opportunities for young people.
Founded in 2024 and formally registered in 2025, EPYM plans to begin its work in Ward 58 before expanding its initiatives across Ekurhuleni.
According to EPYM chairperson Tumelo Ndamane, the organisation was formed in response to concerns that employment opportunities are not reaching all deserving young people in the community.
“We are calling on companies that are willing to provide opportunities for young people to work with us. Our youth are ready and willing to work,” said Ndamane.
Ndamane says EPYM’s goal is to ensure employment opportunities are shared more fairly and that all qualifying young people have an equal chance to benefit.
The organisation also wants greater youth participation in local decision-making. It is advocating for young people to occupy seats in the ward councillor’s committee, the appointment of a youth leader who represents the whole of Ward 58, and a community voting process when leadership structures are selected.
As part of its employment drive, EPYM plans to submit memorandums to companies in Alrode and Angas, saying the industrial areas are close to Greenfield and easily accessible by taxi or on foot.
The organisation hopes businesses will partner with it to create employment opportunities, internships, and skills development programmes for local youth.
Companies interested in partnering with EPYM or in helping can contact the chairperson, Tumelo Ndamane, on 081 026 7885 or email inforepym@gmail.com
