Mandela Day: Stepping Stone Hospice calls on community to bring comfort and hope

Stepping Stone Hospice is encouraging the community to support its Mandela Day campaign by donating, volunteering 67 minutes or contributing essential items to help provide compassionate palliative care to patients and their families.

With Mandela Day on July 18 approaching, Stepping Stone Hospice is calling on the community to honour Nelson Mandela’s legacy by making a meaningful difference in the lives of patients with life-limiting illnesses and their families.

A key focus of this year’s campaign is the R670 for 67 Minutes initiative.

The symbolic donation of R670 represents a meaningful contribution that helps sustain 67 minutes of specialised Hospice care, supporting medical needs, patient comfort and other essential services.

The Hospice is also encouraging individuals, businesses and organisations to volunteer for 67 minutes, sponsor meals or beds, or donate essential items.

“Mandela Day reminds us that even the smallest act of kindness can make a lasting difference. This year, we invite you to stand with Stepping Stone Hospice and help bring comfort, dignity and hope to patients and families facing some of life’s most difficult moments,” Tersia said.

The Hospice explained that its team works daily to care for people living with life-limiting illnesses, ensuring they are not alone on their journey. “We can only continue this work because of the generosity of people like you,” she added.

The Hospice is also appealing for donations of Mandela Day Care Packs for families in its care. The packs should contain everyday essentials such as soap, toothpaste, toothbrushes, deodorant, lotion and sanitary towels to help meet immediate needs during challenging times.

“As the need for palliative care continues to grow, so does our commitment to serving our community with compassion. This Mandela Day, help us honour Madiba’s legacy by making a difference where it matters most,” Tersia concluded.
